When podcasting jumped the shark: QE II
Mark well this day, for it is the day the music died -- or at least, the day podcasting stopped being cool. This year's Christmas message from Queen Elizabeth will be podcast for the first time. You don't get any more old-media than the Queen, but apparently her royal majesty now is ready to have an RSS feed.Considering that The Queen is the 40th British monarch since William the Conqueror, I suppose it is high time that her Christmas message gets delivered in 21st-century fashion.

Oh come on, the Queen is seriously cool! Not only has she had an iPod for years, but she's also got a personal army which has got to rate.

Yes, the day the music died but not because of HRP (Her Royal Podcast). Today was the last day that the Tower Record store in New York is open. The death of old media. They were selling cassettes for $.01 (1 cent) each. Cds 80% off, VHS tapes about a buck BUT adult DVDs $4.99.
Old media is dead! Long live old media!

Cheeky git.
For English people abroad (and I say 'English' because I don't want to be lumped in with the Jocks and Taffs etc), it's not easy to get to listen/see to HM the Q's Christmas message. 3.00pm on Christmas Day just ain't the same without Madge's message. Now I can listen to it in comfort.
Hurrah! And, God save THE Queen!

Heck, it's not always easy for those of us living IN Britain to catch the Christmas message in the madness and confusion of Family and Friends and Christmas TV.

As an English person, I would just like to point out that HM is anything but old media... If anyone still remembers, the Queen started her website way back before everyone had one and there was loads of stuff on there in the days when most websites just weren't that interesting.
Contrary to the way that has just made me sound, I'm not a fervent monarchist, but Liz has been keeping up on these advances.
A little less HR-bashing, please... I mean look at the alternative across the pond!

Congratulations for not using the term the "Queen of England."! "Jocks and Taffs" get a little disgruntled when Americans and others (includiing some English people who should know better) refer to her as that, or as Tony Blair as the "Prime Minister of England". England's the big brother in the relationship due to its size but it's still only one of the partners in the United Kingdom.
Obviously Mac geeks are well aware of the sensitivities of the minority as they're well used to playing that role... Well done.
Allan. New York.
And no silly comments from English readers, please, who say we're just being too sensitive. :)

Yo man, Lay off da QUEEN.
QEII Is what all the cats are shoutin' in the hood and you just can't take the heat, son. you can't take the heat because Quizzy Lizzy come DOWN on you SON. Looks like you're just afraid because you know that your 80 year old monarch wouldn't stand a chance in a brawl and until you can represent I say you shouldn't be bringing that smack, son! put up or shut up! meet QE in a dark alley, she'd AX you son! BRING IT!

She has never used a computer, its a fact she admits quite regularly. My point is, she may have recorded a podcast, but she definitely didn't upload it. :)

I'm glad everyone is taking this in the holiday spirit. :-)
Of course the Queen is cool.
I was planning to refer to her as "Lizzy Deuce" in the post but I got talked out of it.

It's not the first entry in the podcast either, a speeach from her 80th bday is already in there. I think this is just her first Crimble Speech that has been podcast. Very useful for a Brit living in France like me.
Shame it's not video, but I expect she's worried about a mashup :P

How dare you! HRH is one cool lady. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Your idiot of a president made the iPod uncool when he got one, but at the same time it was excellent PR to prove that its so simple to use even GW Bush can use it.
