Apple releases OS X MobileMe update
Apple has released a new "MobileMe" update that allows your OS X system to "see" and interact with the new MobileMe service. As many may know, the change over from .Mac to MobileMe happened last night into the wee hours of the morning. This software adds the new MobileMe system preference pane and adds MobileMe support for Mail.app. We have uploaded a gallery of images for your viewing pleasure showing the subtle changes in System Preferences."The Mac OS X Update For MobileMe is recommended for users running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.4 and includes general system fixes that enhance your Mac for MobileMe," Apple says.
You can download this update by opening Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update).

Apparently, you have to go to:
System Preferences -> .Mac -> account details
to download the update. good luck!

The only update I had available was iTunes 7.7. I ran software update after that just to make sure the new iTunes wasn't a requirement.

no problem... looks like people arent reading the comments... i was kind of curious to see if the .mac update via system preferences would work instead of using software update.

Not for me. .Mac preference pane states "an error was returned from the server. Please try again later."

nope, doesn't work that way.
apple's roll-out on this looks pretty scattered

Yep, no update available here either. Plus when I go to www.mac.com, i just get redirected tot he maintenance page.
Doesn't look like anythings changed since I went to bed.

If you want keep your @mac.com email address rather than changing to @me.com, will you still have to update your Account Settings in mail.app?

With the switch to MobileMe, you will still have your mac.com address as well as a me.com address with the same username. Hope that answers that question.

Seems that Apple is going to get record in "fuck off" customer service.
