GearDiary is reporting that a lineup of about 10 people started queuing up Friday for the iPhone 3G launch at the 5th Avenue Apple Store in New York. You may recall last year's 5th Avenue store queuing started about a week early as well. The iPhone 3G goes on sale at 8 a.m. on July 11th. The first people in line are a man, his wife and their young child. According to GearDiary, the couple told security that they're trying to set a record for time waiting in line and possibly having a baby waiting with them. Police are allowing the 10 people to wait in line and currently have no plans to use barricades.

There just doesn't seem to be the same level of hype as the first iPhone launch. And with the world wide launch being on the same day, the time zone thing makes it a little less special for us here in the States.
Still... pretty phenomenal amount of attention and anticipation for a phone.

It's funny most of us are pretty negative about the line while I consider most of the TUAW readers are loyal mac fans.
I have to admit, I did get in line last year, but that was on the launch day at 3pm (only 3 hrs ahead).
This year, I am planning on rolling into the Apple Store to get a iPhone 3G on the 12th as well...

No, no, no, it's just a new "tradition". Maybe they're gonna be there for the next iPhone release or something. Humans like traditions, they makes wars for traditions.
In this case, even if it's totally dumb, they're not looking for trouble but for a (great) gadget in peace, so it's just funny.
