Photographers and the iPhone
AppleMatters has published a great list of their top ten ways photographers can benefit from the iPhone. From sharing your portfolio on-the-go to note taking, it's a good list. My favorite is the example of a wedding photographer who keeps a sort of "check list" of shots to get (grouped shots, individual shots, etc.) as a reference on his phone. We've seen people use the iPhone's camera to create to-do lists, share instructional videos and more. On a recent car shopping expedition, I made a gallery of all the vehicles I test drove for reference and comparison at home.

Use it to snap wine and cheese labels from the varieties I enjoy...never had an effective analog version.

I take pictures of all of the price tags at Home Depot for different types of lumber, so when I'm figuring out cost for a DIY project, I can estimate costs more realistically.

I do this too. At HD and at Costco. Often walking down an aisle something will catch my eye and I'll snap a photo of it. That was I can go home to research it and think about it for a couple weeks before buying it.

Obvious, but still useful and a "3-in-1" solution: iphone as a functional paper weight on the desk at work that doubles as a music player to support the creative workflow AND an easy way to show off fanboyism to my workmates.

Well, the pencil I 'borrowed' from IKEA actually. The back of an envelope came free in the post this morning and the 32Gb memory in my head seems to have been thanks to my parents. As a great man once so rightly observed; no charge.
I do take a picture of it all on m(i) phone - just so I don't feel left out, you know?

I'm planning to use the 3G iPhone for geotagging when I'm out and about with my Nikon D40X (which doesn't have GPS). I will take a snap-shot with my phone and when I import the pics off my SLR into Aperture, I simply import the location data off the iPhone shot and viola, all my photos are now 'locationed'. Hope that will work.

I did the snapping photos thing when I was shopping for houses to rent.
I did the Home Depot thing mentioned above when I bought some bolts and screws that didn't have labels on them. I wanted to scan the screen at the self-checkout but my picture wasn't good enough. Going to keep trying, though, I'm sure it can be done.
Also used it to show the folks at BestBuy my email receipt when I ordered an in-store pickup, and they WERE able to scan the barcode on that email to ring it up at the register.

When I actually get my iPhone and we get a few other ducks in a row I will use it to keep in contact with the soundboard/light guys via IM and email so I can micromanage our events better.

When My wife and I visited London, Munich and Paris last month, I took a picture of the rail system map and a picture of the stop nearest our hotel. I also take pictures of any transfer stations and landmarks that will help us get back to our hotel. That way we can wander the city freely and not worry about getting to lost. I also took pictures of restaurants we went to.

My wife and I are buying a home in a different state. I made a trip down there by myself to look at homes and took pictures of them, and upload them to the Web Gallery where my wife could then check them out. This was one of the first trips I made without bringing my laptop!
(It'd be great though if I could make videos with the iPhone and upload those to a Web Gallery!)
