TUAW Tip: How to disable automatic hyperlinks in Pages '08

Just open Page's Preferences (Pages > Preferences, or use command + , (comma) to open preferences). Once there, select the "Auto-Correction" tab and un-check the box labeled "Automatically detect email and web addresses." Now when you start typing a link or e-mail address inside of Pages it will appear as text.

Very good fix. This was quite an annoying inconvenience, though for security purposes, it's probably best not to list a email address anyway. Some easy Javascripting can shield them from spam collection robots.

I have already discovered this but a lot of my Pages documents are IT related reference material and contain links.
As I want to keep some of the links, I uncheck the "Make all hyperlinks inactive" box in the inspector. When you type or past something in that you want to use as a hyperlink then highlight it and you can check the "Enable as a hyperlink" and "boom!" you have a link.

Another way is to go into the inspector, then hyperlinks, then check "make all hyperlinks inactive"
This is not as good s your fix though

You should also uncheck the "Use smart quotes" box and learn how to type the “curly” typographers’ quotes directly (option-[, option-shift-[ and the same for single quotes using the close-bracket: ]). This auto feature is the reason for all the backwards apostrophes in ads, billboards, TV commercials, etc. It also makes it impossible to type feet and inches.

I don't want the links to turn blue and get underlined but I still want them to work when exporting my document to PDF. Do the links work anymore after they have been disabled from the preferences as described in the article?
Currently I have links enabled and change the links' style to match the normal paragraph style after pasting them in. It requires some unnecessary effort but the links end up working.
