Cyberduck 3.0

There are lots of great FTP clients out there for Mac OS X, but my favorite is Cyberduck (if only because the icon is so darned cute). Recently Cyberduck 3.0 was released, and it brings with it a bunch of neat new features, including:
- Support for WebDAV
- Support for Amazon S3 (that's Amazon storage cloud service)
- Bookmark searching
- Quick Look for files in the Cyberduck browser (this is pretty cool)
Cyberduck is free, but donations are encouraged.
Update: The previous picture was of version 2.x. Sorry about that!

Well, at least for me, Cyberduck 3.0 gets stuck when trying to connect to yet unknown SSH servers while 2.8.5 displayed a warning message and asked whether to proceed...

Still slow as a dog. I don't know what they're doing in their FTP code, but they are about 10-20 times slower than command line ftp.

Totally agree, user interface is nice, but why not first get the basic FTP engine fixed. Besides using this thing for some small files or checking a directory structure, it's pretty useless. It seems cyberduck is written in Java.

Isn't that screenshot of 2.x ?
Or maybe they changed it again from the way it looked in the beta.

This is an old screenshot. The new version no longer has the bookmarks panel on the left side which seems to work better.
I found that Cyberduck 3 works much snappier for both browsing directories and downloading files.

As John said, they removed the bookmark side panel. Very frustrating. That was a great feature.

It is a nice feature; but I think as far as developing goes, the developer community is shying away from using drawers. Reason? No clue. Maybe because it is difficult to manage with window dimensions: http://www.mcelhearn.com/article.php?story=20041116135640496

By the way, do the bookmarks/history/bonjour buttons are ugly for you as well ?(under Tiger)

I use Cyberduck. It's not too bad, speed wise. I'm hoping this new 3.0 version will work good. I did like the drawer function for bookmarks, so that will be missed.

Wish they would add external editor support for Coda.

Transmit 4EVA!
...okay, I feel a little fanboyish right now.

I definitely love the new UI and removal of the side drawer. All you have to do is switch on the bookmarks-icon to access either connections or connected ftp root, pretty obvious.
But i do wish it was faster with starting an upload and download. Why does it take so long in order to proceed a down or upload? (i'm not talking about the speed itself once it actually is uploading or downloading. That is dependant on your own internet connection)

I am in need of using an app like this. Are there any pros or cons to Cyberduck or Transmit?

Let me break it down for ya!!
Transmit is $30 Cyberduck is free (and open sourced)
Thats really Cyberducks upside besides ease of use...
Transmit has a built in editor (but i'd love syntax coloring...), Two panel layout, is faster and I think is a better program..
I am ALL for open source and I feel bad that I like transmit so much more...
Transmit really is an awesome app and has a proud spot in my Dock!!!

Forklift the best. I never had an FTP which was as nice as this one. I used XP a long time and tried a lot of ftp-apps and on OSX a lot of them sucks... slow and not really suitable to handel drag and drop and so on...and forklift is the only one which got this nice toolbar on the left side... grown up!

I tried Cyberduck's previous version and it always stopped transferring files larger than 2GB to my iPhone (like wikipedia). I went to Filezilla and made the transfer "high priority" and it worked like a charm.

Scott, you should never start a review off by saying "if only because the icon is so darned cute" and expect to be taken seriously. Just a tip.

I happened to update to Cyberduck 3 last night. The connections are usually stellar, but it choked and died on me twice. Its virtually unusable. And its been getting progressively worse with each update for about a year now.
I will be investigating alternatives. Transmit was always good to use.

I always have a problem with Cyberduck not remembering past FTP addresses. It rememebers the previous one but no others.
Does anyone else experience this ?

I love the duck icon. Cyberduck is lovely looking and full of features and as Jere Kirschel said, it's still slow as a dog. If you have one website and work on only a few files, it's a good tool. If you're a pro web designer look for something faster.
