SyncMan is a simple application for syncing your Mac's Address Book with your Gmail contacts, a feature long desired by Gmail and Google Calendar users who may have other sync tools already in place. While we have noted that a similar feature is forthcoming in the more broad-based iCal syncing tool Spanning Sync 2, SyncMan concentrates just on contacts and is available now.SyncMan is €9.95 (~$15.32) and a demo is available.

With SpanningSync and BusySync soon to support AB syncing I don't see the value in spending $15 creating such a limited tool. Kudos to the developer but I hope this isn't your primary app.

It's true that we're probably not going to pull anyone away from BusySync or Spanning Sync, but we're willing to bet that there's a market for people who just want contact sync from a utility app instead of something running constantly in the background.

Another one for you is gSync by MacNess, been using that for about four months and that is awesome. Soon to have syncing with contacts too.
Would never use because of the security risks of having a man in the middle. Crazy nowadays to pass over username and passwords to a 3rd party company!!!

I'm using Soocial (http://www.soocial.com/) to do some of my syncing; they support gmail, but GAFYD doesn't work yet. Google hasn't released an API or something. Can someone confirm if SyncMan works with GAFYD before I install it?

I'm really glad to see this app out there because it just adds to the body of work that Google has opened up by giving people the keys to the contacts API. I use Spanning Sync now, but I think that more apps in this area will be desirable for end users because the competition will help all these apps get better. I hope more people jump on the development wagon.

I've tried and it may need further polish. It has tried to merge many contacts that aren't even remotely similar, if only being complimentary of each other (e.g. AddressBook having blank email, while GMail one having a blank phone number).

I (the developer) have gotten a few reports of this. I'm out of the country for the next week, but I'll look into this as soon as I'm back. It should be a simple fix in the matching code, so sorry about the delay.
