OK, they didn't really try to fry an egg. But for those of us using those first searing-heat MBP's, you'll be happy to know the Penryn MacBook Pro's are a little cooler (temperature-wise anyway). On average, about 10° F cooler, and the fans run slower and quieter. My Santa Rosa MBP doesn't get very hot...fans are almost completely silent while the CPU is idling (2000rpm). So I don't know why people keep screaming "zomg its so hot! ill get a burn and sue apple!!!!"

I have no idea what they are talking about. I have a MacBook Pro 2.6 from november, non penryn and it never gets that hot even running photoshop, streaming video, music, and working in multiple documents. This needs to be revisited.

I have a 2.6 GHz that I ordered just before the Penryns were announced, and a 1.8 GHz that I ordered the day the first MacBook Pros were announced in 2006.
The 1.8 GHz gets uncomfortably hot. Especially above the function keys.
One obvious difference is that the original MBP had lots of short, narrow vertical ventilation slits near the hinge. Newer MBPs (for at least a year) have a smaller number of fatter, longer horizontal slits. The newer design looks like it probably provides more airflow.

Heh. I have a first-gen MacBook Pro and it gets ridiculously hot - it's terrible when I'm running PPC Creative Suite, but bad anyway. First Mac I've ever "bought" (fortunately, it's work's, not mine) that I seriously regret. (My G5 tower, OTOH, is a beauty.)

I've got a brand new Penryn MBP here (that I managed to snag on Tuesday from a relatively unknown Apple store that for some reason had a load of them) and I can say that if it wasn't for the fact that people complain about heat from the old ones, I'd never even think about the heat of this computer. It's been rendering video in my lap all day, and it's just fine.
