Refurb Mac Pros back on the Apple Store
Dealmac reports this morning that the Mac Pro towers have returned to Apple's refurb clearance stock, with the Octocore model available for $3399, a full $600 below new retail. The rest of the line shows up as well (scroll down through the refurb page for all the choices); shipping is also free, which is a big help for those heavy, heavy machines.
It may be a smidge late to pick up a tower for Christmas, but the good news is that if you were planning to pick up a hefty Mac before Macworld Expo in January -- since laptops are more likely to see revisions than the big iron -- you can now pick up a pre-owned model for less.

I have wanted to buy a refurb, but the only thing stopping me is it the lack of airport and bluetooth. Will Apple add these if you request it?

Diddy--nope, there are no BTO options for refurbished gear--not even extra RAM. And I hope that Steve DOES rev the damn things in January--they haven't been meaningfully revised since they were introduced a year and a half ago! (Adding one top-end option does not count as "meaningful.") The prices haven't come down any either, and in fact the $2199 price for the refurb $2499 model is the same as it was over a year ago.
You know what I really want to see happen? I want Steve to take the stage next month and say "We've had a busy year. We shipped the iPhone, we revised the entire iPod line, we released iWork 08, iLife 08, and Mac OS X 10.5. Today is all about the Mac."

PS: in the (later) days of the beige G3, through the Blue & White G3, and the G4 and G5 eras, there was (almost) always a ~$1499-1599 entry-level PowerMac. The introduction of the Mac Pro was the first time in many years that there was no sub-$2000 option available. iMacs are nice, but some people DON'T want an integrated display, dammit! And the Mac minis are nice (I have three) but they're a little underpowered.

What a buddy noticed was the pricing on the monitors - $1500 for the 30-inch? That's, um... BETTER than I would have thought they'd have gone. (As in, "HULLY GEEZE THAT'S CHEAP!")
