Surely to be overlooked in the hullabaloo of the iMac update is the quiet, very quiet, update of the Mac mini. Apple just sort of noted at the end of the iMac press release that the Mac mini has also gotten a speed bump. The $799 Mac mini now boasts a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor (formerly it sported a 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo processor) and for $599 you get a1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, when just a few days ago that would get you a 1.5 GHz Intel Core Solo processor Mac mini. Pricing remains the same, as do all the other specs.

Considering the price drops for the Core Duo chips, Apple must have a fat profit margin on these models.
At the $499 price point, they would have added so many more users. Most desktop users aren't willing to, nor need to spend more than $500.

That 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo processor model is very attractive but I wish it was about $100 cheaper. As the current owner of a Dual 2.0 Ghz G5 and a 23 inch cinema display, I could easily validate the purchase of a $500 dollar machine to bring me into the Intel era. I don't do much gaming (by that I mean none-at-all) on my Mac so the integrated graphics do not bother me. It's just something about that $599 price point.

Seems that the low-end model can't be upgraded to include a SuperDrive. How odd.

Anyone notice the picture on the far right for the MacMini with all the cover art for actual movies. I don't remember seeing that before for front row.
