Quicksilver b53 for Leopard
Many folks have noticed over the last few days that TUAW favorite Quicksilver had disappeared from the net. Fortunately, Blacktree's servers are now back up and beta 53 (build 3814) of Quicksilver is available for download (download link). The new version is primarily a bugfix release, but is recommended for everyone running Leopard. Alcor, the developer, says that there was a nasty bug in the plugin downloading code of b51 which brought the server down. So anybody who had been freaking out over Quicksilver's mysterious disappearance should set their minds at ease.[via Hawk Wings]

Phew!!!! It's a huge relief to know QS is back online. I went from a casual user to a full-blown worshiper in the past few months. At work, I constantly use it to look up contacts w/o having to open Address Book. I've also set keywords to instantly call up apps, specific folders buried deep within our server, the websites I visit most often, even to have an e-mail to my fiancee already addressed and ready to go in a snap. I constantly use it, and this free app probably makes more of a difference in my day-to-day computing than a $130 upgrade to Leopard would.

The "Remove from Dock" feature now works in Leopard I'm pleased to say.

I couldn't live without quicksilver on tiger. If it was closed for some reason I just kept helplessly pressing control+space. It's also the first thing I notice that is missing on other peoples macs.
But now that I have leopard I am experimenting with using spotlight for all my application launching and it works pretty well. The only thing I really miss are the customizable hot-keys to invoke google searches and itunes controls.
Does anyone know if leopard has any global keyboard controls for itunes?

Did anyone have problems with Quicksilver and Leopard? I tried to upgrade and when I rebooted I saw the QS icon in the dock. I thought to myself that's strange and went to click on it and my mac froze. After waiting 30 minutes and not being able to force quit. I turned it off and it came back with a flashing system folder.
Since I am a long time mac user, I never backed up. I am finally getting things rebuilt using Diskwarrior and a brand new external drive.

Oh sweet Jesus. My web search catalog was gettin' all funky because of their server problems. Now I can stop drinking Scotch for a few days.

I second the Spotlight as QS replacement opinion. I actually like it better than QuickSilver too since you can stop typing and resume without it reseting your search. So if I end up with more than one hit initially, I can keep typing and that narrows down my search rather than having to switch to arrowing down to select the one I want.

Has anyone had problems with the "Dictionary" plug-in for Quicksilver on Leopard? I think Leopard changed their Dictionary and made the plug-in buggy...

Yes, I have noticed. It doesn't work. No definitions are found. Nor are any lookups in the Thesaurus. Very sad.

@Gary G:
Since I upgraded to Leopard, my web searches don't work either... I'll install the updgrade to QS now and see if it works again..

Anyone else having the quicksilver icon in the dock now also? With Tiger, it was only in the menubar. How do I get it away from the dock?

Klaus
I guess you just have to drag it simply out of the dock, like any other application symbol or am I getting something horribly wrong? :)
Anyway, my extremely customized websearch did not work either and no plugins were shown in the preference pane and since Quicksilver leaves its traces on various places, I'm going to trash everything and customize QS from scratch.
That goes better with the "clean install" mood I am currently in.

#9 there is a setting in quicksilver for that... I have it disabled alltogether, i.e. same as spotlight.

Thanks serenity. :)

#13,
I can't drag it out of the dock.
When I drag the icon out of the dock, this "trash cloud" appears, but when I release my mouse, the icon just jumps back into its place in the dock :(
Any ideas?

Hey Klaus,
glad you made it, I was already scratching my head ;)
Completely reinstalled QS and pimping it to my needs took by far less time than when I first installed it.
However my plugin list has disappeared once again and I cannot install any new plugins, its just empty. Anyone out there with a similar problem?
I seem to be the only one in the blacktree forum with this bug :(

Harald, I have the same problem. My entire plugin list seems to have disappeared, and the plugin screen is just blank.
